Holy f$#k was that ever good.

Within the first three minutes of their 40 minute set at White Stage, Afrirampo completely kicked the living crap out of everything else I've seen this weekend. From the moment Ono emerged carrying a large Naeba Ski Resort sign, her and Pika owned the crowd and set out to completely blow the minds of everyone in attendance.

Picking up her guitar, Ono opened the show with a huge blast of feedback before ripping through the band's first song. The Osaka duo take parts of rock, punk, shoegaze, metal, and a whole lot of noise, shred them to shit and then bash what's left into a intoxicating sonic concotion. Playing with the intensity of 50 people, the two hyperactive ladies were nothing short of brilliant.

Their major label debut, Urusa In Japan, may have only come out in April, but that didn't stop a large number of people05 from screaming along with the girls' lyrics. One particulary eager fan was so moved that he spent the duration of the show playing air guitar on a miniature Mazda flag that he was carrying around. In his defense, it was hard not to be instantly sucked into by Afrirampo's chaotic sound and remarkable stage presence. Unable to stand still for longer than ten seconds Ono and Pika were both constantly jumping, dancing, and whipping their hair around while performing. Pika was particulary interesting to watch as she did all of this while still banging away on her kit at warp speed! Between songs the two chanted nonsensical phrases and made strange noises.
